Blood Flow Restriction
Blood flow restriction training is a technique is used during exercise to improve muscular strength at lower intensity and loads. During BFR, blood flow is reduced in neither the arm or leg by using a cuff around the limb. The benefits of using BFR is you are able to maintain and build strength of an injured arm or leg while decreasing the mechanical stressing of the affect limb due to the reduce intensity and load performed during exercise.
Benefits of BFR:
To improve strength via low load strength training (20-30% 1-RM)
To improve protein synthesis via acute cellular swelling
To improve aerobic capacity
To improve bone mineral density via increased growth hormone and VEGF
To protect against atrophy prior to surgery
To reduce pain post exercises
